There is an air of sturdiness to a tree but do not be fooled. A great deal of trouble can be festering within before the tree shows any signs of ill health.
Homeowners with the best of intentions can compound matters. Topping off a tree or putting in the wrong species in the wrong place may be hazardous and will not do the tree any favours. When a large tree comes down it can do harm to a fence or the house itself. Professionalism is called for.
