Partner and President
As a second generation business owner of BIRCH, Inc., I’ve been in the green industry for as long as I can remember. After completing a biblical and theological degree and a minor in entrepreneurship from Bethel University, I joined BIRCH, Inc. as part of the leadership team. Starting Birch Tree Care was a sensible next step as we continue to grow and develop our company, our brand and our team.
On the weekends, you’ll find me trying the newest ‘foodie’ restaurant with my wife, cooking dinner for friends & family, participating in triathlons, playing hockey or chasing after my daughter Peyton & son Lucca.
Partner and Vice President
My father started a tree care company in 1976, which became a major part of my life growing up and into adulthood. Watching his passion for this industry along with his attention to detail towards every customer, taught me the importance of customer relationships and business.
I began working in the tree care industry for my father’s company over 20 years ago splitting firewood. During the summer, I was on the crews, dragging brush and doing yard clean-up. In 1998 I went through climbing certification school to learn the proper pruning and climbing techniques for industry standards. In 2006, my brother and I became owners of our father’s company where we grew to gain national attention; we sold the business in 2012.
Partnering with Kris and Birch Tree Care was a very easy decision for me. Everyone at BTC has the same work ethic, passion and attention to detail—we all care very much about our customers and the services we provide.
Outside of work, my wife Jackie and I enjoy spending time watching our son Joey play hockey and baseball and our daughter Bella in soccer and gymnastics. We also spend a lot of time outdoors hunting, fishing and being at the lake.
I started working in the tree industry in 2001 for the dad of one of my friends to make a little extra money. I never thought it would turn into a career, but it did! During my 15 years in the industry, I have worked as a grounds man, climber, tree crew supervisor, plant health care technician and a consulting arborist. I couldn't imagine doing anything else. I love being able to work outdoors and help people make their trees healthy and looking great.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife and two boys Frankie and Jake. Our weekends are filled with T-ball games, family outings and working in the yard. I also enjoy going fishing with my dad and brother and hanging on the lake with friends.
I joined the Birch Tree Care team in 2014. I have experience in human resources, reception, accounts payable/receivable, scheduling and more. At Birch Tree Care, my position is a combination of all of my previous office experience. I love working here and with the great team of co-workers who take their roles in the company very seriously.
As a foster care failure, I live with my former foster dog, Rosie, a rescue from Indiana. My son Alex is now 22 and I enjoy spending time with him at least once a week for dinner or music events. I am also a Certified Medical Electrologist/Laser Technician and enjoy working with clients on weekends.
PLANT HEALTH CARE MANAGER
Having an interest in the green industry started at a young age for me, sparked by running a neighborhood lawn mowing business and helping my mother out in her garden. During my freshman year of college at the University of Minnesota, a professor of mine enlightened me of the career potential of this industry. From there on, I spent my summers traveling to Chicago, New York, Connecticut, Kentucky, Tennessee and all around Minnesota for work. During this time, I gained perspective on growing climates, species variation, management techniques, disease pressure and professional chemical application strategies. After graduation in 2012, I held a number of positions as an intern, supervisor, assistant, superintendent, crew foreman and plant health care technician. All of those jobs have shaped my personality, work ethic and my meticulousness and passion to provide the best results for our clients at Birch Tree Care.
When I am not working, staying active is important to me. Hockey, snowboarding, broomball, golf, softball and fishing are activities that fill my free time. I also love spending time with family and friends.
CONSULTING SALES ARBORIST
With 21 years of experience in the industry, I am an ISA-certified arborist with a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota. I am also a Minnesota-certified tree inspector and commercial pesticide applicator. I am excited to be a part of the Birch Tree Care team!
